Thistle Whistle Community Solar has been developed in close collaboration with established regional organizations. Each partner brings specific expertise and accountability to the project.
Delta Montrose Electric Association (DMEA)
The regional electric cooperative that will interconnect the solar installation to the grid and administer the community solar subscriber program. The interconnection agreement with DMEA has been completed, a critical milestone in the project’s development. The Power Purchase Agreement is in final stages.
CSU Western Colorado Research Center — Rogers Mesa
Colorado State University’s research center at Rogers Mesa will conduct applied agrivoltaic research at the site, studying crop performance, soil health, and water use under partial solar shading. Findings will be disseminated broadly to producers and community partners across Colorado.
Thistle Whistle Farm
Thistle Whistle is a small, diversified farm producing specialty crops for local markets, a CSA, chefs, and community partners. It prioritizes serving local residents and improving access to fresh, culturally meaningful food. Thistle Whistle’s fields reflect a wide diversity of crops—from over 200 varieties of peppers to unique vegetables and herbs shaped by relationships with immigrant communities.
The Valley Organic Growers Association
VOGA supports the largest concentration of organic, sustainable growers in Colorado, offering educational programming and events that promote sustainable agriculture. VOGA is supporting Thistle Whistle Community Solar through membership advising and subscriber recruitment
National Community Solar Partnership+
The National Community Solar Partnership+ (NCSP+) is a network of solar stakeholders working to increase access to affordable solar in the U.S. As a part of the Accelerator Prize, NCSP+ is offering support in operational best practices, subscriber equity models, and navigating Investment Tax Credits.
Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG)
Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is a national network advancing equal rights, justice, and community resilience. Through its Climate Change and Environmental Justice Program, L4GG provides pro bono legal guidance to Mirasol on tax credits, project structuring, and capital stack development.
GRID Alternatives:
An early partner connected with this project through the Accelerator Prize, GRID Alternatives provides technical assistance and equity-focused support for community solar development. It helps ensure projects are accessible and beneficial to underserved communities. As a national nonprofit, GRID advances clean energy through workforce development, community partnerships, and a focus on economic and environmental justice.
